DECEMBER 2011

'
'Late afternoon, Salthouse'

This view of Salthouse was painted late on a sunny afternoon.  The sun was very low and the church was glowing with reflected light.  I was particularly attracted by the pink clouds against the 'duck egg blue' sky behind - a light effect you'll often only find on crisp, clear winter days.

OCTOBER 2011

'Cattle near The Bure, Norfolk'

sold
These are cattle I quickly sketched in a riverside meadow, on the banks of the River Bure towards Itteringham.  It was painted into the light and the cattle were shillouetted with light from behind.

SEPTEMBER 2011

'Sunlight after the storm, Pin Mill'

This quick oil sketch captures passing storm clouds at Pin Mill, near Ipswich, where fellow members of 'The East Anglian Group of Marine Artists' had gathered to work.  We later retired to 'The Butt & Oyster', (where the Group began in 1979), for a very enjoyable meal.

AUGUST  2011

'Evening Light, Southwold harbour'

sold
The old Gaffers Association's annual meeting took place in
Southwold during the first weekend in August.  The gaff rigged boats were joined this year by the Thames Barge ' Dinah', which you can see in the foreground of this small oil sketch I painted on site.

JULY 2011

'Long lost oil panel - 'On the banks of the Nile, Egypt'

N.F.S.
July was largely spent re-flooring and re-decorating my studio.
When pulling out a chest of drawers, I came across this long lost oil panel that I was very pleased to find, as I'd painted it during a trip down the Nile with a group of fellow artists back in 1993.

JUNE 2011

'Buttercup meadow, June'

sold
This is a view I came across not very far from my home. The cattle in the water-meadows were backlit by early summer sunshine, which suited the loose treatment of the subject.

MAY 2011

'Cattle in the water meadows, near Th
urne'

sold
Hastily mooring up at this spot below Thurne, the cattle in the buttercup meadows
made the subject.  However the cattle soon moved on to another part of the meadow leaving me to remember the formation that had attracted me to the view.

MARCH 2011

'Low tide, B
rancaster'

sold
A break in the weather allowed me to paint this view of Brancaster
on the North Norfolk coast.  This is a favourite spot of mine, from a raised stony path. The interest for me was the broken sky reflected in the water filled channel.

FEBRUARY 2011

'Sun, mist and rushes, River Ant'

sold
A great deal of February was gloomy, but I did manage a painting break on The Broads.  The golden winter rushes lifting the subject even in the late afternoon mist.

JANUARY 2011

'Winter sunshine, Salthouse'

sold
During the heavy winter snowfalls, there was only one day when the sun came out, and I was able to take advantage of this by painting this drainage ditch along the coast road towards Salthouse.
